Ninos y Jovenes Childrens School and Home Fundraising Campaign to aid recovery from therecent floods in San Juan Cosala, Mexico.

Twenty eight years ago, Padre Beto took it on himself to open an school and home for children in the next village over from where our new home in Mexico is.  It is a purely volunteer effort with little or no funding from either government or the church.  Instead, some local people, both Mexican and expatriate, have taken on the task of sustaining this incredibly worth-while effort.  Please take a minute to read the letter in the "Letter" section (just click on tab at top).  This place is the last stop before the streets for about 100 mostly Indian kids.

This summer, the Mexican village where Ninos y Jovenes is located, San Juan Cosala, was hit with a devastating flood and mudslide.  I've attached three photos taken at the school and children's home so you can see the extent of the damage - click on Photos above.  These children who had almost nothing to start with, lost even that.  The mud and water rose halfway up the bunk beds, ruining most of the matresses and all of the meager possessions that were stored on the floor or under beds.  Food supplies were ruined, plumbing and electrical sustained major damage from the water and mud as well.

A wonderful local volunteer effort is repairing the buildings and recovering/washing whatever can be salvaged.  However, much property is ruined and will have to be replaced at considerable cost.  For example, as of this update, we need almost 100 mattresses and linens for them.  See the picture of the beds as they are now, the kids are sleeping on concrete!
That's why I'm contacting you all to ask you to join with Ann and I in raising funds to help these kids and the 84 year old Padre Beto get back on their feet.  And beyond that, establish a sustaining effort for this most worthy cause.

If you would like to be a part of that effort, please click on the Make a Donation link on the menu above.  There are two options, the first is a single donation, the second is as a sustaining donor.  Fill out the required fields and then hit "next" at the bottom and it will take you to the final payment section.  If you would rather send a check, make it to Ninos & Jovenes and send it to us for forwarding to Mexico.  Expect that it will take some weeks before it clears back to you.

Please forward this website to others who might help out!  If you have a PayPal account, you can go directly to PayPal.com, hit "send money" and send money to ninosjovenes@gmail.com
